Kitto's rainy-day shelf

Eight browser games for days
when the sea mist rolls in

When mist swallows the cliff path, Kitto shelters in the engine house with eight free browser games, each one a small concern that keeps working between visits. There are two economies of mines, factories and shops, three sports clubs, a farm, a park of hatched dinosaurs and a city in a Mesoamerican world, and Kitto never had to wait for a download on any of them.

Price of all 8: free to play; any in-game purchase is optional.

01

Free from the first mist to the last

Kitto has never been charged a penny to join any game on this shelf, and months of play cost nothing; every farm, club, factory and city is open in full.

Each studio tucks a shop off to one side, selling speed-ups and trimmings. Plenty of veteran players walk straight past it, and where one computer serves a whole household, purchases can normally be turned off in the account page.

02

Starting a new game

Each game's button carries you to its studio's website in a new tab. Register on that site using an email address, and before the kettle cools you will be running a farm, club, company, park or city.

Every game starts with a tutorial. Kitto says stay with it to the last step, since it shows each menu and how the economy works in small, easy pieces.

03

Little and often, or a long afternoon

All eight keep working with the tab closed: crops ripen, matches are played, factories produce and dinosaurs hatch. A peek with the morning toast and another once the lamps are lit keeps everything moving.

Use short visits for collecting and queueing. Keep the long, rain-lashed afternoons for weighty calls like a fresh supply chain, a swap for a star player or another enclosure.

04

A password locked in the engine house

Your login for each game belongs to its maker, so Kitto types it only on the address that maker publishes. Kitto uses a separate password per game and switches on two-step checks wherever they exist.

A real studio worker will never want your password. If a stranger dangles free premium currency in return for those details, the account is what they are after; delete the message and report it.

How the eight won a spot beside the fire

  • Every game on the shelf loads in the plain browser of a desktop or laptop, so the first move comes before the kettle boils.
  • Kitto paid nothing to sign up anywhere on the shelf, and each full game carries on for people who leave the shop alone.
  • Farms, clubs, factories and cities hum along with the tab closed, so even a two-minute peek between showers pushes them on.
  • Each studio has looked after its game through many winters, so there is a settled crowd and no shortage of friendly advice.

No. Every one of the eight runs in a computer browser, and six offer an official phone app as well for anyone who prefers one.

No. Joining costs nothing at any of the eight, the complete game is yours without spending, and any purchase inside a game is entirely optional.

No. An independent studio builds and runs every one of them, and the buttons here lead to that studio's official site.

No. Eight different studios mean eight separate sign-ups, each one free.

Virtonomics, Sim Companies, BuzzerBeater, My Free Farm 2, Dinosaur Park: Primeval Zoo and Tentlan have official apps as well as the browser version. PowerPlay Manager and GoalUnited are listed as browser games.

Dinosaur Park or My Free Farm 2 for a gentle few minutes, or one of the three sports clubs around match day. Virtonomics, Sim Companies and Tentlan repay longer planning.

Yes. The two business sims run on markets made by players, the three sports games put you up against human managers, and Tentlan has alliances across its map.
